Even without detailed analysis one can safely say that AAGC I and AAGC II have very little to show for as results. If AAGC I and II were successful, we shouldnt be talking about an anglophone crises in Cameroon, at least not with this much loss in life and resources. So the big question is, Why an AAGC III and even if it happens, what role can it play to bring concrete solutions to our people?
First, the generation of AAGC I and AAGC II were naive enough to think that simply meeting up and drawing up a list of demands for the government on behalf of a people whom the conveners do not legitimately represent will be considered and implemented to the letter.
What i mean is is that, the AAGC is not a Cameroonian institution and can therefore only act as a lobbying group. In the days of the Federal Republic of Cameroon, West Cameroon house of assembly could legally and legitimately represent the people's concerns, however we no longer have that, but the people still seem to think that an AGC I, II or even III will have that power.
If the conveners and propagators of AAGC I and II had taken this simple point into consideration, the anglophone movement will have been a constant pressure group to the government progressively advocating for better conditions for the anglophone people. But instead they raised false hopes and expected instant solutions, that push people to frustration and radical decisions when the solutions they hope for don't come as quick as they hoped for.
Is organizing an AAGC III important, Yes. It helps us clarify our position and gives us a knowledge and relationship base to act upon though with no direct power. Now the biggest problem is that an AAGC III may just repeat the same error, give us false hopes, and send us to the graves 20 years latter.
So what we should do is what Anglophones should have done since the collapse of federation: Build strong pressure, advocacy and lobby groups, and be constant in action. Build our economy and protect our investments
